I am pleased to announce the release of my children’s fiction novel, Whale Island and the Mysterious Bones, an exciting adventure story for tweens (age eight to eleven).

It’s a story that begins with Katey and Will Longley, brother and sister who journey to a remote island thousands of miles across the globe. After a storm capsizes their uncle’s boat near Cape Cod, the children meet Captain Sharkley, a shady individual who uses them in his quest to find mystical whalebones on an island from which no one has returned alive.

Katey and Will escape the captain’s ship, along with the captain’s nephew, Bartholomew and a crew member. When they reach Whale Island, a beautiful but dangerous island with unusual plant and animal life, they uncover the island’s amazing secrets. During their island exploration, they traverse a perilous cave and confront huge Komodo dragons and other oversized animals. They eventually discover ancient whalebones which reveal incredible powers, including the ability to speak to whales, dolphins and fish. They also unearth an extraordinary discovery: a lost undersea civilization and its inhabitants, revealing a whole new world to them.

The book can be found at many retail book store outlets, as well as www.amazon.com, and www.barnesandnoble.com. It can also be purchased at www.karenbonnet.com. In addition, for those with electronic readers such as the Kindle and Nook, Whale Island and the Mysterious Bones is now available for downloading in electronic book format.

A brief history about me: As a child, I grew up in Queens, New York, along with my brother and sister. My love of reading began as a young girl when I delighted in books such as the Nancy Drew series, the Bobbsey Twins, Pippi Longstocking, and many classic novels, such as The Wizard of Oz, Tom Sawyer, and Huckleberry Finn. My favorite children’s book was Carbonel: The King of the Cats by Barbara Sleigh, which I read when I was ten.

As an adult, I began working in administrative positions until I began a career as an editor/reporter, writing numerous articles for community newspapers and several magazines. As a published author, my articles and photographs were published in well-known local publications, trade papers and magazines. Later, I became involved in public relations, working for schools, a nationally-recognized nonprofit, and small to medium-size businesses.

I eventually turned to entrepreneurship when I opened KLB Services, a company that offers expertise in public relations and marketing, using a hands-on approach and applying it with integrity, reliability, and professionalism.

My hobbies are spending time with my husband, children, and two year-old granddaughter; reading; bicycling; walking; playing tennis; and participating in any outdoor recreational activities.

Educational credits include a Bachelor of Science degree from SUNY Empire College; and an honorary membership in the Phi Theta Kappa Society from Nassau Community College. You can reach me via email at kbonnet@optonline.net. I welcome your comments!
